Fans of Christopher Guest have a lot to be excited about, because the star/director of such semi-improvised comedies as “Best in Show” and “Waiting for Guffman” has a new movie debuting on Netflix next month.
Titled “Mascots”, the mockumentary focuses on a group of people who don costumes to work as mascots for sports teams, corporations and the like, following them as they prepare to compete in a mascot competition.

Along with such regulars as Jane Lynch, Fred Willard, Parker Posey, Ed Begley Jr. and Guest himself, “Mascots” also introduces some new players, including Zach Wood (“Silicone Valley”), Chris O’Dowd (“Bridesmaids”, Guest’s HBO series “Family Tree”) and Sarah Baker (whom viewers of “Louie” will recall from her scene-stealing stint in the “So Did the Fat Lady” episode).
Perhaps the most exciting news of all, however, is that we’ll apparently be seeing a character from one of Guest’s past movies: Corky St. Clair, the flamboyant local theatre director from “Guffman”, briefly glimpsed in the trailer (and confirmed on IMDB).
“Mascots” debuts on Friday, Oct. 13; until then, check out this sneak peek:
