Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley says marrying Avril Lavigne sparked issues not seen in a typical relationship.
Whibley revealed to Vice that he had to deal with plenty of Lavigne’s stalkers back in the day: “My ex-wife [Lavigne] had a lot of stalkers. And being married to her, they sort of wanted to come after me. There was this one guy from the U.K. who started sending death threats.”
One may think this is the typical celebrity stalker story, but as the Sum 41 singer explained — it was far more eerie: “He was really weird because the stuff he sent had no fingerprints on it and it was at a level that was a little bit more sophisticated. It turned out to be way more serious and he wanted to kill me for some reason. Thankfully the FBI found him over here.”
The musical pair separated after four years of marriage. Sum 41’s sixth studio album “13 Voices” will drop on October 7.
