Are you ready for True Blood: The Musical?
Ready or not, a Broadway-style musical based on the blood-drenched HBO vampire drama could be coming our way soon, the brainchild of the TV show’s music composer, Nathan Barr.
If the idea of Sookie Stackhouse and her supernatural pals singing and dancing on the Great White Way sounds far-fetched, Barr admits he totally gets that, but imagines a musical that will focus on the core elements that made True Blood an out-of-the-box hit.
“This was something that I pitched to HBO and [True Blood creator] Alan Ball,”; says Barr, as reported by ABC News.
Barr, who has composed the score for every episode in the show’s seven seasons, said his proposed musical will revolve around Sookie, adding, “I think we’re really going to try to return to the roots of the show.
Barr also reveals that True Blood star Stephen Moyer — who demonstrated his own musical theatre skills on last year’s The Sound of Music Live — lent his vocals to some samples of musical numbers from the potential musical that he presented to Ball and the network.
If everything goes as planned, says Barr, he’ll be able to present a workshop version in about a year, but a stint on Broadway is still very much up in the air. “There’s no guarantees,”; he warns. “But I think the direction we’re heading in is really exciting.”;
