According to Entertainment Weekly, “members of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe launched the campaign to protest the construction, which they say will cross the Missouri River less than a mile from the Standing Rock reservation and potentially cause irreversible harm to both the community’s drinking water and the river’s ecosystem.”
