Canadian music superstar Chantal Kreviazuk is lending her voice to draw attention to World Refugee Day.
ET Canada spoke with the Juno-winning singer-songwriter about her work in raising awareness of the issue and the work she’s done with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
“I was really honoured that they would ask me,“; Chantal told ET Canada.
World Refugee Day takes place today (June 20) and the aim is to enlighten the public on the issue.
“Essentially it’s bringing awareness to people about the program that UNHCR has and is,“; offers the star.
Chantal, a noted veteran of participating in humanitarian projects, says that her direct engagement in charity endeavours (like War Child) has had a significant impact on her life.
“Certainly going into the field makes everything very real,“; shared the singer. “One of the things that always sort of dawns on me or irks me is how, when I leave, it’s still happening, that is so difficult to get my head around.“
