What were they thinking?
That’s what you’ll be asking yourself after viewing this shockingly tone-deaf TV commercial from a mattress retailer in San Antonio, Texas, that evokes the horrific terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 in order to unload some mattresses.

“What better way to remember 9/11 then with a Twin Towers sale?” the commercial starts off. If you think it couldn’t possibly get worse, then think again: the commercial ends with two guys knocking over twin mattress towers while the commercial’s spokeswoman (who is the company owner) reacts in mock horror in a display that is beyond tasteless.
To make matters worse, after the destruction of the mattress towers, she turns to the camera and declares solemnly: “We’ll never forget.”
Following outrage over the ad — which has apparently seen the company receive death threats — Miracle Mattress owner Cherisse Bonanno appeared on a San Antonio newscast to apologize.
“It was stupid,” she now says of the ad. “It was a stupid idea that we sent out. We apologize for our stupidity and we really hope you forgive us.”
The apology, however, has done little to quell the backlash, and as a result Miracle Mattress has announced that not only has it put the kibosh on the “Twin Towers Sale,” it’s closing its doors “indefinitely,” adding: “We will be silent through the 9/11 Anniversary to avoid any further distractions from a day of recognition and remembrance for the victims and their families… Miracle Mattress will deliver a public statement next week highlighting accountability actions taken within the company.”
