With Oscar buzz swarming the film already, ET Canada caught up with the stars of “Lion” following the film’s world premiere at TIFF.

Dev Patel and Nicole Kidman star alongside Rooney Mara and David Wenham in the true story of Saroo Brierley (Patel), who at the age of five, was separated from his Indian family after being adopted by an Australian couple (Kidman and Wenham). The movie catches up with him over two decades later when Brierley attempts to locate his original home using Google Earth.

“I read the script and I said this is just such a beautiful story,” Kidman told ET Canada’s Cheryl Hickey about the touching drama. “It’s nice to be in a film that makes you feel and that is about hope and about connecting us in the world.”

“There are many things for people to relate on,” she continued before speaking on the positively surrounding TIFF and Patel’s leading role. “Toronto is so warm…it’s not a tough festival.”

“It’s great to see him just take this role and run with it,” Kidman added.

Patel, who seems to flourish with every appearance at TIFF, echoed Kidman’s comments and talked about his return to the festival that first catapulted him into the spotlight.

“My life changed here with ‘Slumdog [Millionaire]’,” Patel shared. “Now it’s just so many years later and things have changed. There’s such a positivity here in Toronto. I love it. It brings back so many good memories.”
