“Saturday Night Live” cast member Pete Davidson took to Instagram over the weekend to share memories of his late father, a firefighter who died in the World Trade Center attacks in 2001, with a little of his trademark humor.
Davidson, 22, posted two photographs. The first was shared on Saturday, showing Pete with his father, Scott, sipping from beer bottles. “Can’t believe tomorrow is going to be 15 years,” he wrote. “Missing the legend!!! Thank u all for ur kind words and support as always #werememberthem.”
On Sunday, Davidson posted a second photo of a pair of mud-caked work shoes in front of a photo of Pete’s father pouring beer. “One of my dad’s homies gave me his old dirty a** boots from work and a sick photo of him lookin like a young legend!!! Apparently my dad wore sketchers how f**kin embarrassing!!” he captioned the heartbreaking pic.
The comedian was only seven when his father died in the 9/11 attacks. He had been trying to rescue guests at the Marriott World Trade Center Hotel when it was destroyed by the North and South Tower collapses.
Sunday marks the 15-year anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001. President Obama honored the lives lost in the attacks in a speech outside the Pentagon.
“We remember, and we will never forget, the nearly 3,000 beautiful lives taken from us so cruelly,” Obama said.
Later in his speech, Obama added, “Fifteen years may seem like a long time, but for the families who lost a piece of their heart that day, I imagine it can seem like just yesterday.”
Additionally, Lady Gaga was one of the many celebrities who took to social media to mark the somber occasion.
“God Bless all the men and women who died in the attacks or fight to save lives during the Sept. 11 attacks #WeWillNeverForget #NewYorker,” she tweeted.
Gaga’s “Just Dance” collaborator, Colby O’Donis, lost a family member in the attacks, and he posted a touching tribute to his uncle via Instagram.
“These were the last photos taken of my uncle by Time magazine 15 years ago at the world trade centers, minutes before they collapsed,” the musician wrote. “He was an EMT & saving lives was his passion.”

15 years ago today I remember my dad calling me waking me up to tell me not to come into the office & told me what happened in NYC. We then had a family meeting at my moms & prayed. Life is so precious & I pray for everyone who was affected by this awful tragedy. #NeverForget911🇺🇸🗽
