Tom Hanks is in talks to appear alongside his Joe Vs. the Volcano/Sleepless in Seattle/You’ve Got Mail co-star Meg Ryan for a fourth time in Ithaca, an adaptation of William Saroyan’s 1943 novel The Human Comedy. The production is scheduled to begin shooting next month in Virginia.

In addition to acting in the film, Ryan will also direct.

Saroyan’s novel tells the story of a 14-year-old telegraph delivery boy whose older brother has gone off to fight in World War II. Hanks, who has already signed on as an executive producer, is reportedly eyeing the role of the boy’s father.

Sam Shepard, Melanie Griffith, and Jack Quaid have already signed on.

The film will mark Ryan’s first significant movie role since 2009’s Serious Moonlight.
