Taylor Swift pledged to donate $1 million toward Louisiana flood relief, and has delivered the latest round of her donation by giving $50,000 to Ascension Public Schools, which still has five schools that remain closed due to damage from the massive flooding that devastated the state, displacing 5,000 students.
Previously, the “Shake It Off” singer donated $50,000 to the Baton Rouge Food Bank, and earlier spoke of her love of Louisiana.
“We began the 1989 World Tour in Louisiana, and the wonderful fans there made us feel completely at home,” she said at the time. “The fact that so many people in Louisiana have been forced out of their own homes this week is heartbreaking.”
“We are overwhelmed by the generosity of those wanting to help our students,” said Ascension Public Schools Superintendent David Alexander in a statement on the schools’ website. “We are particularly honoured that Taylor Swift is reaching out to us. Her investment in our children will have far reaching impacts as we recover from the flood.”
