Singer-songwriter-guitarist Bobby Womack passed away this Friday at the age of 70 his record label XL Recordings confirmed. He had battled colon cancer since 2012.
The R&B and soul artist’s career flourished throughout the 1960s and 1970s garnering several number one hits including Woman’s Gotta Have It and Lookin’ for Love (a remake of a song he recorded with his family act the Valentinos).
He also had a hit with the song Across 110th Street from the 1973 crime movie of the same name (Quentin Tarantino then appropriated the song for the opening credits of his 1997 film, Jackie Brown, and it was also used in the 2007 film American Gangster starring Denzel Washington).
