Steven Avery Of ‘Making A Murderer’ Is Engaged

Steven Avery, the subject of Netflix documentary series “Making a Murderer”, has just gotten engaged to Lynn Hartman, a legal secretary from Las Vegas.

Avery was sentenced to life in prison without parole back in 2007 for the murder of photographer Teresa Halbach. His nephew, Brendan Dassey, was likewise convicted of the homicide, but recently had his conviction overturned after the Netflix doc left many wondering whether police had mishandled the case and convicted the wrong men.

“Steven Avery’s engagement to Lynn is one bright spot in an otherwise unbelievably tragic and unfair life story,” says Avery’s attorney, Kathleen Zellner, in a statement to Us Weekly. “Cheers to both of them.”

Avery and Hartman, both 53, have been dating for eight months, reports The Daily Mail, with the couple getting to know each other through letters and phone calls until they finally met face-to-face for the first time last week when Zellner visited Avery at the Waupun Correctional Institute in Waupun, Wisconsin.

“She’s going to be my future wife. We’ll be laughing forever,” Avery told the Mail. “I’m happy. She treats me decent, she loves me. She’s kind of spoiling me right now. I just want to be happy and enjoy my life. I think I did enough time.”
