After 33 years together, Goldie Hawn is revealing why she and Kurt Russell have never married.
“I would be long divorced if I’d been married,” the actress tells ITV. The twice-divorced Hawn has been with Russell since 1983.
“I chose to stay, Kurt chose to stay, and we liked the choice,” Hawn says.
Hawn reveals the couple, both 65, asked their children years ago if they should officially tie the knot, but the family thought the couple were perfect as is.
“There is something psychological about not getting married because it gives you the freedom to make decisions one way or the other,” she says, adding that while she and Russell value their time together, it’s their independence and breathing room that has allowed for their relationship to remain strong all these years.
Hawn says new couples “want to be together all the time,” but couples in healthy long-term relationships should spend “68 per cent” of their time together. Whatever the theory behind relationships, it seems to be working for Hawn and Russell.
