The Hoff Hassled By Lawsuit Over Planned Berlin Wall Documentary

By Brent Furdyk.

Last month, David Hasselhoff and National Geographic Channel announced plans for a documentary chronicling the role the huge-in-Germany former Baywatch star played in the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Not so fast, say producers of an earlier Hasselhoff documentary about the same subject, who have launched a lawsuit alleging the Hoff had already signed a deal for a documentary that was pretty much identical to the proposed Nat Geo doc, Hasselhoff vs. the Berlin Wall.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, producers of the original doc — who allegedly cut a deal with Hasselhoff last August — have filed a suit alleging Hasselhoff agreed to $25,000 up front and 15 per cent of the profits of a documentary that would examine how his hit song “Looking for Freedom”; became the “unofficial anthem of a reunified Germany.”;

In the suit, Owls Media (producer of the first documentary) claims that the Nat Geo documentary is so similar to the film they were planning to make that it would prevent them from being able to sell it. The suit claims breach of contract and fraud, and also is seeks an injunction against Nat Geo to put the brakes on Hasselhoff vs. the Berlin Wall.
