I’d say that about 99% of my interviews are light and fun with lots of laughter involved… but once in a blue moon I am given the tough assignment of interviewing someone who has just lost a loved one.
When Joe Monteith lost his son, “Glee”; star Cory Monteith, a year ago to a heroin/alcohol overdose, it was the most tragic news that we had heard about in quite some time.
Cory, who seemed to be finding his stride as one of the popular faces on the show, was also starting to branch out into film. He was on top of the world: a successful career, a beautiful girlfriend and a father who loved him very much.
Sadly, Joe Monteith’s heart broke the day he learned about his son’s death and hasn’t healed much. After spending some time with the man, it probably never will. “He just seemed to enjoy life overall,”; Joe shared. “Then all of a sudden he’s gone.”;
Joe and his wife Yvette invited us into their Oromocto, NB home to talk about the one-year anniversary of Cory’s untimely passing. “He enjoyed talking to ET Canada,”; Joe told me. “He said, “Dad, when you see me in an interview on TV, I’ll give you a little wave.'”;
They are two of the nicest people you will ever meet, so hospitable and genuine.
My heart goes out to them as they continue to come to grips with Cory’s secret life and tragic death.
