Donald Trump’s attempt to “Make America Great Again” as the country’s next Commander in Chief has hit another potential snag with the former “Celebrity Apprentice” host making some controversial comments about post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) that have raised the ire of military veterans.
During a campaign appearance today, Trump was asked about what kind of approach he would take, as president, to dealing with veterans who return home and face struggles with mental health issues. In his reply, Trump implied that PTSD is something that only hits weak people, since “strong” people aren’t affected.
“When you talk about the mental health problems, when people come back from war and combat and they see things that maybe a lot of the folks in the room have seen many times over and you’re strong and you can handle it,” said Trump to the audience, comprised primarily of veterans, “but a lot of people can’t handle it.”
Following the jaw-dropping comments, an array of people (including celebrities) took to Twitter in order to weigh in on the unbelievably uninformed remarks coming from a man who has never served in the military.
