By Dan MacRae, .

It’s been announced that Neil Young and Crazy Horse will not be playing their scheduled July 17 concert date in Tel Aviv.

“It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we must cancel our one and only Israeli concert due to tensions which have rendered the event unsafe at this time,” read a statement addressing the canceled show. “We’ll miss the opportunity to play for our fans and look forward to playing in Israel and Palestine in peace.”

According to a report from Reuters, Tel Aviv police pulled the plug on the show citing safety concerns. Police spokesperson Micky Rosenfeld said the show was canceled “in order not to put people in Gaza rocket range at unnecessary risk.

The concert would have been Young’s first show in Israel in nearly 20 years. The Canadian rock legend has indicated that he will be making donations to charities in the region.

“I will be making donations to both the Louise Tillie Alpert Youth Music Centre of Israel, and Heartbeat,” shared Young in the cancellation announcment statement. “Two organizations that teach music to Palestinian and Israeli youth simultaneously by enabling them to play music together.”
