SPOILER ALERT: THE FOLLOWING TAKES PLACE AFTER THE SHOCKING EVENTS OF LAST NIGHT’S ’24’ FINALE, AND SPOILERS WILL BE DISCUSSED.
The final episode of 24: Live Another Day brought even more death and devastation to Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) as he faced off with old foe Cheng Zhi in order to prevent all-out war between China and the U.S.
There was one more major casualty along the way: Jack’s one-time love Audrey (Kim Raver). Meanwhile, President Heller (William Devane) was left a broken man who will eventually succumb to the ravages of Alzheimer’s, and Jack wound up a prisoner in the custody of the Russians. Is this the end… or a cliffhanger that will propel us to another season of the revived action hit?
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, 24 showrunners Evan Katz and Manny Coto reveal that bringing back Jack for another season is not only possible, it’s highly likely.
“All it really takes is a story that fires us up. That’s what got us excited about doing this season,”; Coto said. “I think what would draw us back if that were ever to happen — and that’s definitely up in the air — would be we or somebody presents an interesting take on Jack, on Jack’s character, and where he is, which would suggest a great season.”;
Viewers of 24: Live Another Day saw the coldest, toughest, most cutthroat Jack Bauer yet, and Katz explains that ruthlessness was true to where the character found himself this season.
“Kiefer is playing him very true to this battered, beaten-up character who has survived all of these losses of people he loved,”; says Katz, “and has now been an on-the-run terrorist, according to his own government.”;
