Singer-songwriter Catey Shaw has a new tune out: Brooklyn Girls. And despite the music video hitting YouTube less than two days ago, it’s already generating serious buzz.

Unfortunately, most of that buzz is pretty darn negative. You see, critics have been having an angry field day with the pop ditty.

On the surface, this may appear to be a head-scratcher. The tune is harmless enough: catchy indie-pop with strong hooks and some unique-sounding vocals. Alas, the video isn’t doing the music many favours. Here’s one scathing critique of many (and we mean many), courtesy of Vice magazine:

“Brooklyn Girls is basically the Rebecca Black Friday video of Brooklyn gentrification. Every f—ing thing in this video is an ugly stereotype of the worst elements of Brooklyn, like a three minute and thirty second SNL spoof. All of the most cliched trends and landmarks are on display.”;

Yes, we’re talking everything from inept skateboarding to bearded hipsters to misunderstood graffiti artists to — obviously — a whole lotta tough-looking gals loitering around the iconic New York borough. As for the lyrics, well, they’re not exactly critic proof either:

Brooklyn girls
When they walk in, they rule the world
Brooklyn girls
Tough and pretty, break the rules
Brooklyn girls (x 4)

Sure, the critics may have spoken, but what do you think of Catey Shaw’s new tune?
