RZA is speaking about about the alleged behaviour of Azealia Banks in Russell Crowe’s hotel suite, taking responsibility for bringing her as his guest while discrediting her version of what took place.
In a lengthy Facebook post, the rapper explains that he’s been assisting Banks recently, helping her to land a record deal, acting as a “filter” because of her reputation for being “volatile.”
As RZA writes, she accompanied him to Crowe’s suite, and was eventually behaving completely out of line.
“Before the night is over Azealia is insulting half the room she becomes loud and obnoxious,” he writes. “There was nothing funny about her behaviour. I felt a little embarrassed because she was my guest.”
Things took a dangerous turn, he claims, when Banks “threaten[ed] to cut a girl in the face with a glass, then actually grabs a glass and physically attacks for no logical reason. Russell blocked the attack and expelled her from the suite.”
Witnessing the melee firsthand, says RZA, “I saw her behave as an obnoxious erratic individual and in the circles I frequent this was unprecedented. I was totally puzzle[d] by her and thought maybe meds or booze or something had her zoned out.”
He’s quick to point out that “THIS IS NOT A RACE OR GENDER ISSUE,” and says he never heard Crowe call her the N-word (as Banks has alleged)
“I’m not trying to protect Russell from anything, he is a man of his own Calibre,” he adds. “My art, talent and success speaks for itself and Azealia’s recent slander of me and self-victimization reflects the personality of the person that was in that room that night”
RZA concludes: “I have a wife, daughters, sisters and females on my staff so I protect women everyday. I pray none of them ever behave the way I witnessed Azealia Banks behave that night.”
