Like many Americans these days, Stephen Colbert is looking at the possibility of heading north should Donald Trump win the presidency, and on last night’s “Late Show” he took things one step further by consulting an immigration lawyer to explore becoming a Canadian citizen.
Meeting with attorney Andrew Cumming, Colbert was asked questions about the Canadian government as part of the citizenship interview. His answers, however, were all jokes about Canadian stereotypes (when asked to name two symbols of Canada, Colbert quipped: “the maple leaf and the Barenaked Lady”).

He didn’t do much better when quizzed about Canada’s three branches of government. “The NHL, Tim Hortons and Alan Thicke,” Colbert responded.
“The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET/PT on Global; you can also watch full episodes online.
