At the tender age of one, Adele’s son Angelo Adkins has received a five-figure payout after his parents settled a paparazzi privacy case with photo agency Corbis Images U.K., The Guardian reports.
Lawyers for the toddler’s parents brought the case forward after the photo agency collected and profited from the child’s “milestone moments.”; The particular photos under scrutiny capture the singer and her son during “routine, everyday family occasions.”;
“It is a matter of profound sadness that many of his milestone moments, such as his first family outing and his first trip to playgroup, were photographed and published worldwide expressly against his family’s wishes. Adele and Simon never encourage such photos. Quite the opposite,”; Adele’s solicitor, Jenny Afia told the court on Wednesday.
Despite the legal action against Corbis, Afia stressed that the Grammy winner was thankful for the media’s support throughout her career. “She is extremely grateful to the public and press for their support in helping her achieve international acclaim,” she said.
British law enforces strict regulations regarding the paparazzi and privacy, and Adele along with husband Simon Konecki plan on protecting their son’s rights, the solicitor stated. “They will also continue efforts to improve the laws relating to paparazzi and children generally, building on the successful campaign Adele helped fund in California resulting in far stricter harassment laws.”;
“The children of famous parents are not celebrities. The law can, will and should protect them,”; Afia added.
