Tom Hanks made his ninth appearance hosting “Saturday Night Live” and it was a triumphant return for the “Inferno” star, joined by musical guest Lady Gaga. In his opening monologue, Hanks proved to be “America’s Dad” by giving the country the ultimate pep talk.
Hanks also shone in a racially charged “Black Jeopardy” sketch, playing an apparent redneck whose grasp of African-American attitudes is amazingly on the money.
In addition, Hanks also appeared in a filmed bit about an attempt by CBS to produce a cable-style “comedy” that’s not particularly funny but will hopefully garner the network a few award nominations.
Hanks truly outdid himself in a sketch about a couple going on a scary Halloween haunted elevator attraction, introducing us to the greatest Halloween character ever, David Pumpkins.
This week’s Weekend Update was a memorable one, featuring a return appearance from Cecily Strong’s “Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started A Conversation With At A Party” as well as Leslie Jones delivering a spectacular monologue about having her phone hacked.
Hanks was joined by Alec Baldwin in the non-Trump role of a pilot flying with Sully in a sketch that goofed on his recent biopic of the heroic airline pilot who made an emergency landing in the Hudson River.
In this outrageous Halloween sketch, a trio of women dress up for a night on the town, which flash forwards to a drunken night of regrets, and the funniest use of green body makeup since Lou Ferrigno’s “Incredible Hulk”.
In this sketch, Hanks delivers an aw-shucks impression of his “Inferno” director Ron Howard, who is hosting a show about cute animal videos that goes off the rails thanks to his French guests.
