Netflix subscribers have fallen for Millie Bobby Brown’s captivating portrayal of “Stranger Things” character Eleven and now the 12-year-old star is opening up about her role’s challenges, letting us in on what her first kiss – on or off-screen – was really like.

Despite revealing that the moment made her feel “really bad afterwards,” Brown admits that the lip-lock was appropriate for the sci-fi show. “I did have to kiss Finn [Wolfhard],” she said while sitting down for an interview with BFF Maddie Ziegler for Interview’s November issue. “At the end of the day, it’s only acting, and it’s something you have to do, and I would do anything for the show. I cut my hair, I kissed Finn.”

She continued, telling Ziegler the moment “was definitely strange. It was, like, my first kiss, so it was kind of weird. But then, like, when I’d done it, I thought, ‘Wow. It makes sense for the storyline.'”

“I am the only girl, and the boys have their squads. They have their group, and it’s definitely difficult because they’re boys and talk about boy stuff,” she added about her real-life friendships with her co-stars. “They talk about girls and video games. I definitely need to talk about normal things a girl would talk about,” she explained. “They’re like my big brothers. They annoy me, but we are very, very close.”

Setting talk of awkward kisses aside, the young starlet praised the show’s creators, the Duffer Brothers, for creating such a “challenging” role. “It was different from other roles because in those I had to speak a lot… and in this show, I realized I didn’t have to speak with my mouth, I had to speak with my face,” she explained. “Instead of actually saying ‘I’m angry, I’m sad, I’m confused,’ I had to do it with my face, and that was challenging.”
