An Australian man has been charged with the attempted murder of a security guard after shooting him during an apparent robbery attempt at the home of model Miranda Kerr.

According to People, Shaun Anthony Haywood faces is facing felony charges of one attempted willful, deliberate and premeditated murder, aggravated mayhem and assault with a deadly weapon. Haywood was scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday at Los Angeles County Superior Court in Van Nuys, California.

On Friday, Oct. 14, Haywood allegedly broke into Kerr’s Malibu home after hopping the fence. When he was approached by a security guard patrolling the house, Haywood slashed the guard’s face with a knife, with the incident taking place on Kerr’s property, but not inside the house.

A spokesman for the L.A. County Sheriff’s Office told People that after being slashed, the guard “drew a weapon and fired three to four rounds, hitting the suspect in the face and upper torso area.”

Bail for Haywood is recommended at more than $1 million. If convicted, he could face the maximum penalty, life sentence in state prison.
