“The Walking Dead” returned with a vengeance on Sunday, watched by a near-record 17 million viewers, with the same episode also becoming the year’s most tweeted-about TV episode.
But where’s the love from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, considering the show has only won two Emmys, both for makeup and prosthetics?
That’s what some fans of the zombie apocalypse mega-hit want to know, and they’ve taken things a step further by starting a petition demanding that star Andrew Lincoln be given an Emmy nomination.
Apparently unaware that it’s the organization’s voting members who nominate actors, not the Academy itself, the petition (launched seven months ago) has since racked up more than 15,000 signatures — far more than the 2,500 required before it can be sent to the Academy board.
“I believe Andrew Lincoln deserves an Emmy for his role as Rick Grimes,” reads the petition. “The man is an amazing actor and the emotion he shows when playing the character is just brilliant. I think it’s a damn shame he’s never been recognized. let’s show him and the rest of the cast how much we love the show, by doing something positive in the fan base.”
