In an interview with Esquire back in May, Charlize Theron revealed that she first signed up for Mad Max: Fury Road in 2009. After training for eight months in order to build muscle mass and get into what she describes as “warrior shape,”; Theron arrived in Australia in 2010 to begin shooting.
But there was a problem: Due to heavy rainfall, the film’s desert locations had all been transformed into lush green meadows – not a positive development for a movie about desert nomads engaged in an epic battle over water. The production was put on hold so that the meadows could transform back into desert, but they never did. Eventually, the producers settled on Namibia as a shooting location and production re-commenced in 2012.
Based on the new trailer which debuted at Comic-Con this weekend, it seems the five-year wait was worth it. In a matter of minutes, the film’s status has instantly gone from “might be promising”; to “must camp out in front of the theatre for a week to get an advanced ticket.”;
