John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ Voted One Of The Most Hated Songs Of All Time

While some would list John Lennon’s iconic 1971 hit “Imagine” as one of their favourites, there are others who rate among their most-hated tunes of all time.

As the New York Post reports, a guy named Edward Carter was having a discussion about what songs they were absolutely sick of when he decided to throw the debate over to the Twitterverse.

This, he explains, is “the moment that torpedoed my next 72 hours” as seemingly the entirety of social media chimed in, with thousands of nominations pouring in.

“Imagine”, as it turned out, kept popping up as a song apparently disliked by many.

“I think it’s the whole idea of talking about poverty and misery, while John was actually hanging around in his palatial New York townhouse,” Carter tells The Post of why he thinks the song is so hated. “It’s the duplicity of the whole thing.”

Another song that is surprisingly despised by many is Joni Mitchell’s “Big Yellow Taxi”, while others included The B-52s’ “Love Shack” and “Rude” by Magic!”

Perhaps the most surprising thing about the whole exercise, notes the Post , is that Carter added the majority of the 337 despised songs to a Spotify playlist entitled “Kryptonite Songs” — which has become a huge hit.

“You would think people would want to avoid such a playlist, but it is getting a lot of play,” he tells the Post. “Maybe they’re gluttons for punishment.”
