Based on looks alone, one might assume Emily Hampshire (Cosmopolis) could easily be tapped for the Madeleine Stowe role in Syfy’s upcoming series, 12 Monkeys. After all, the actress bears more than a passing resemblance to Madeleine, who appeared in the original 1995 film.

But nope: producers have much more intriguing plans for the 32-year-old Canadian.

In fact, they’ve confirmed Emily will play a variation on the character of Jeffrey Goines, originally made famous by Brad Pitt.

Brad landed a Golden Globe for the iconic role, in which he played the leader of the Army of the 12 Monkeys: a highly-eccentric — and quite possibly insane — animal rights activist residing in a psychiatric ward. A deliciously challenging character indeed!

Based on the critically-acclaimed Terry Gilliam film, Syfy’s 12 Monkeys will follow a man from the post-apocalyptic future who’s sent back to present-day to locate a virus that eventually destroys most of humanity.
