Brad Pitt Asks For Joint Custody Of Children In Response To Angelina Jolie’s Divorce Filing

Brad Pitt is requesting joint custody of his children.

The 52-year-old actor responded to his now-estranged wife Angelina Jolie’s divorce petition late Friday afternoon, requesting both joint legal and physical custody of the former couple’s six children — 15-year-old Maddox, 12-year-old Pax, 11-year-old Zahara, 10-year-old Shiloh, and 8-year-old twins, Knox and Vivienne.

Court documents obtained by ET show that the rest of Pitt’s filing is similar to Jolie’s divorce petition from Sept. 19. Both list their date of separation as Sept. 15, 2016, and cite irreconcilable differences as the reason for divorce. Jolie and Pitt are both asking to pay their own attorney’s fees, but neither party mentions spousal or child support in their filings.

Differences between the filings involve both custody (Jolie asked for joint legal custody, but sole physical custody of their six children) as well as property (Jolie listed specific property to be awarded to her, while Pitt has not yet claimed any property).

Pitt, who signed his response on Oct. 31, is clearly not going down without a fight; a source connected to the Jolie-Pitt child custody dispute tells ET that “the documents speak for themselves.”

Jolie and Pitt agreed to a temporary custody deal — also known as a structured decision making (SDM) safety plan — in September, after the Department of Child and Family Service made its recommendations, a source told ET at the time. The plan was set in place after an alleged incident that occurred on a private jet between Pitt and his 15-year-old son, Maddox, and also included voluntary individual counseling. Pitt also agreed to undergo drug and alcohol testing, though not required.

So far, ET has confirmed that Pitt has had two supervised visits with his five youngest children, and had his first supervised visit with Maddox on Oct. 19.
