UPDATE: Bridesmaids director, Paul Feig, is in talks to direct an entirely new comedic Ghostbusters reboot, Variety confirms.
Paul will direct and produce the new project from an entirely new script. However, no formal negotiations have taken place as yet.
Paul, who was behind the Sandra Bullock-Melissa McCarthy comedy The Heat, is now working with Melissa once again on a new funny flick called Spy slated for a 2015 release.

The hotly anticipated movie, Ghostbusters 3, may be one step closer to becoming a reality–sources say Bridesmaids director, Paul Feig, is being eyed by Sony for the upcoming film.
Although he may be the studio’s frontrunner (and has apparently shown interest), sources are also adamant that no formal negotiations have taken place.
The movie has been in a lengthy development phase with Ivan Reitman, the director of the original Ghostbusters in 1984 and 1989’s Ghostbusters II attached to direct. But, after he exited the project in March of this year, rumours swirled about his replacement.
