Gigi Hadid Apologizes After Being Slammed For AMAs Melania Trump Impression

Gigi Hadid took a page from co-host Jay Pharoah’s playbook, showing off her impression skills at the 2016 American Music Awards.

During her opening monologue, Hadid pouted her lips and did her best to impersonate Melania Trump: “I love my husband, I love Barack Obama and our children, Sasha and Malia,” she joked.

Standing next to a pro impressionist like Pharoah can be daunting, but the supermodel did her best to shut down the nerves.

The Twitterverse did not treat Hadid’s impression kindly, and the model was roundly slammed for mocking the future First Lady’s Eastern European accent in tweets such as these:

Following the criticism, Hadid explained herself in a Twitter response, saying there was “no bad intent” in her misfired comedy attempt and apologizing “to anyone that I offended.”
