Confirmed: Kanye West Hospitalized ‘For His Own Health And Safety’ After He Abruptly Cancels Tour

The mystery behind Kanye West’s recent rash of bizarre behaviour deepens, and ET confirms the “Famous” rapper was hospitalized this afternoon, shortly after lashing out in puzzling onstage rants and subsequently cancelling the remaining dates on his Saint Pablo tour.

According to NBC News, “multiple authorities familiar with the case” have confirmed that Yeezy was admitted to an Los Angeles hospital on Monday, with a source claiming police responded to a medical welfare call this afternoon. While no criminal activity was involved, authorities on the scene discovered a “medical emergency” that led paramedics to immediately transfer West to a hospital “for his own health and safety.”

LAPD officials confirm to ET “that around 1:20 in the afternoon they responded to the 800 block of north Laurel Avenue in Los Angeles for a disturbance call. Upon our arrival the disturbance call became a medical emergency only where LAFD responded and our job was done there and they took over the medical emergency.”

According to TMZ, West was reportedly in the midst of being checked out by a doctor for “severe sleep deprivation” when the decision was made that he needed to be admitted to a hospital immediately. “Law enforcement sources tell us Kanye did not want to go,” reports TMZ, “and was restrained when he was transported.”

A police report obtained by TMZ alleges that West’s personal physician Dr. Michael Farzam had placed the 9-1-1 call, alleging the rapper attempted to assault a staff member at a gym.

His doctor described him as “suffering from temporary psychosis due to sleep deprivation and dehydration.”

Reports say that West may have been handcuffed to a stretcher in accordance with a 5150 hold, which qualifies an officer or clinician to involuntarily confine someone suspected to have a mental disorder who may pose a risk to themselves or others.

Meanwhile, West’s tour promoter, Live Nation, earlier confirmed that the remaining dates of West’s tours had been cancelled, but did not provide a reason for the cancellation.

West has been baffling fans during the past week as his behaviour appeared to become even stranger than usual, culminating in onstage rants in which he claimed to support Donald Trump in the recent U.S. election (even though he didn’t vote), as well as appearing to dis Beyonce and Jay Z.

A rep for West “didn’t immediately respond to NBC News’ request for comment.”

In an update, TMZ reports that “law enforcement sources” claim West was “acting erratically” while at the home of his personal trainer, Harley Pasternak, and would only agree to go to the hospital after being convinced by his management and law enforcement that he should go.

“Law enforcement sources tell us Kanye was restrained by handcuffs to a gurney during transport to the hospital,” TMZ adds.
