Vancouver ‘Last Comic Standing’ Finalist Credits Robin Williams As Comedy Influence

By Brent Furdyk.

When the dust clears on tonight’s season finale, will Vancouver’s Lachlan Patterson emerge as the Last Comic Standing?

We’ll have to tune in to find out, but having made it to the final three among such a highly talented field of competition is a huge accomplishment for the Vancouver-born comic, and he tells ET Canada that appearing on network television has proven to be a serious career booster. “For a long time up until this show, it was very hard to get stage time,”; he says. “Now I’m at the point that I can’t do all the shows people are asking me to do. I’m actually turning down more work than I can keep.”;

Lachlan got his start in Vancouver comedy clubs when he was just 19, and he credits the late Robin Williams for inspiring him to pursue his standup dreams. “He was in Vancouver filming Jumanji, and and he would go to the comedy clubs and perform after he was finished taping for the day,”; says Lachlan. “I would just sit there and watch. I thought it was amazing how brave he was. You gotta be fearless, and he taught me what that meant, what that looked like. And a couple of months later I took the plunge.”;

As for tonight’s big finale, Lachlan admits he’s already thrilled to have made it this far. “I just know that no matter what happens from now on, what I wanted when I started the show is happening.”;
