A release date for the sequel to this year’s record-breaking Godzilla has been set. Legendary Pictures announced on Thursday that Godzilla 2 (a working title) will hit theatres on June 8, 2018.
As confirmed at Comic-Con in July, Gareth Edwards will return to helm the second instalment. The British director is currently busy with the top-secret Star Wars spinoff, which is set for a December 2016 release.
Last month, Legendary also suggested that three of Godzilla’s most epic rivals, Rodan, Mothra and Ghidorah, could join the King of all Monsters for the sequel but the production company has yet to offer any confirmation of the rumour.
Godzilla, out on Blu-Ray September 16, has grossed over $500 million internationally.
