“This year has been absolutely insane,”; admits model-turned-actress Emily Ratajakowski on the 12 months that have seen her propelled from dancing naked in Robin Thicke’s controversial “Blurred Lines”; video to landing her dream role in the David Fincher-directed film Gone Girl.

In a new interview with Vanity Fair, Emily admits the success of the “Blurred Lines”; video — which has so far racked up an astonishing 320 million views on YouTube — is not something she saw coming. “I didn’t expect the video to become this pop-culture phenomenon,”; she says.

One of those 320 million viewers was director David Fincher, who thought Emily would be perfect for his movie adaptation of bestselling novel Gone Girl, and cast her in the role of the college-student mistress of the character played by Ben Affleck. Her experience working with the director, she says, was like a getting a crash course in filmmaking. “I worked really well with David because I was ready to be a student and he is the best teacher,”; she says. “He wants to do a hundred takes and I want to do them for him.”

A professional model since age 14, the 23-year-old has taken acting roles in the past but says she decided to take a break from acting until she found the right role. “I didn’t want to act in high school because I was sick of auditioning for Nickelodeon, Disney mean girls, or the cheerleader,” she says. “I came back to it when I had enough leverage to pick and choose.”

Emily’s strategy paid off: “I got a dream role in a dream film.”;
