Casting an actress who is routinely put on lists of the world’s most beautiful women as an impoverished beggar is usually a sure-fire way to invite ridicule, but there have been a few rare instances where this counter intuitive strategy has actually worked out (Juliette Binoche in Lovers on the Bridge is perhaps the most notable example).

If the new still from Shelter is any indication, it looks like Jennifer Connelly could join Binoche in the pantheon of actresses who have managed to pull off this remarkable feat.

The movie is the directorial debut of A Beautiful Mind actor Paul Bettany (Connelly’s husband). It tells the story of Hannah (Connelly), a homeless woman who falls in love with a fellow vagrant (Captain America: Winter Soldier“s Anthony Mackie).

Shelter will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
