Carrie Fisher has been saving a whopper of a revelation for her new memoir, “The Princess Diarist”, in which she peels the lid off a 40-year-old secret: she had a brief affair with Harrison Ford during filming of “Star Wars”, when she was just 19 and he was in his 30s, and married.
While Ford has yet to either confirm or deny the alleged romance, Fisher still has plenty to say about it, as she demonstrated during today’s appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”.
“I was in infatuation,” she tells Ellen. “Probably, love is more mature.”
Looking back, Fisher admits there was an “anything goes” culture on movie sets in the 1970s. “No one told me about location rules, or lack of rules,” she says. “But you can do whatever you want, as long as you film the movie.”
And as for how she managed to keep the secret for four decades? “I told other stuff to distract people so they wouldn’t figure it out,” she says. “No one thought it was happening at the time … I don’t even know if he did!”
During the appearance, the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” star also offered advice to members of the audience in a segment dubbed “Carrie Fishing for Answers.”
First up was a woman who asks how she could get her family to stop pitying her for being single. “Start dating,” Fisher quips.
Another member of the audience, who recently turned 30, asks if Fisher has any advice for her 30-year-old self. “Don’t do anything you’re thinking of doing,” Fisher says. “Just don’t do it. Don’t talk about it either. Don’t tell people everything.”
