The Weeknd Topples Justin Bieber’s Single-Day Streaming Record

Justin Bieber no longer holds the record for single-day Spotify streams.

The pop star, who nabbed the title back in November 2015 on the release date of his latest album “Purpose”, is passing on the torch to his fellow Canadian artist, The Weeknd.

The Toronto native stole the title from the Biebs on Friday with the release of his highly-anticipated album, “Starboy”.

While exact numbers have yet to be made public, Spotify confirms the record was indeed broken on November 25.

“We’re proud to have partnered with The Weeknd, his management, and Republic Records on a phenomenal album. We look forward to breaking even more records together in the near future,” Spotify’s global head of creator services Troy Carter said in a statement. “Spotify’s continued support of The Weeknd has now reached historic proportions and also reinforces the tremendous growth of global streaming.”

As Fuse notes, all 18 of The Weeknd’s new tracks made it to Spotify’s Global Top 50 playlist.
