UPDATE: Following yesterday’s report that Benedict Cumberbatch will provide the voice of Shere Khan in Warner Bros’ Jungle Book: Origins (not to be confused with Disney’s Jungle Book, which will feature Idris Elba as the voice of Shere Khan), The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Naomie Harris, Tom Hollander, Eddie Marsan, and Peter Mullan will also be joining the project.
Bale will voice the panther Bagheera while Blanchett will voice the python Kaa.
Benedict Cumberbatch will provide the voice of the man-eating tiger Shere Khan in Warner Bros’ upcoming adaptation of The Jungle Book, The Hollywood Reporter is reporting.
The movie will be directed by motion capture superstar Andy Serkis (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), who previously worked with Cumberbatch as a second unit director on The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, in which Cumberbatch provided the voice of the dragon Smaug.
The movie is not to be confused with Disney’s upcoming adaptation of The Jungle Book, which is already fully cast and is slated to hit theatres in the fall of 2015. In that version, Shere Khan will be voiced by Idris Alba, Kaa will be voiced by Scarlett Johansson, Bill Murray will provide the voice of Baloo, Christopher Walken will voice King Louie, and Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o will lend her voice as Rakcha. Jon Favreau (Iron Man) is directing.
Cumberbatch will be up for an Emmy next week for his work in Sherlock.
