During an appearance in Mexico City to promote Hercules, Dwayne “The Rock”; Johnson revealed that he will be involved in bringing the DC superhero Shazam to the big screen, but was unable to specify whether or not he would be portraying Shazam or his archenemy Black Adam.

“I’m playing a DC character,”; said Johnson. “So it is the story of Shazam, but I just can’t clarify right now whether it’s Shazam or Black Adam. We have been developing this for some time and I’m very excited about it.”;

Johnson went on to talk about his fascination with anti-heroes—a strong indication that Black Adam is the character that Johnson is more interested in playing. “I’ve just been a fan of anti-heroes for some time, I’ll say that. And this particular one, I think that we are going to do it a great justice and I’m putting my heart and soul and my bones into this role, by the way. So I look forward to it. We’re going to make the announcement very soon, we’ve just hired the writer, so as soon as we close this deal with business affairs we can make the announcement.”;

Johnson also hinted that he could make an appearance in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. “You just know that within the DC world and the DC mythology, which is very rich and it’s very cool, there has been, a very long time, years by the way, in terms of how to interconnect these characters. And we’re doing it now with Batman and Superman. Of course we have Aquaman, we have Wonder Woman coming, so there is a lot coming down the pike. I’ve always been interested specifically in two characters, my entire career, they have been my two favourite ever since I was a kid, always, has been Green Lantern and Black Adam.”;

The name Shazam is an acronym from Salomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury, the six mythical figures who provide the superhero with his powers.
