Earlier this week, ET Canada nominated Paul Haggis, director of the Oscar-winning Crash, to take part in the ice bucket challenge. We are pleased to report that Haggis gamely accepted our challenge and has nominated Trudie Styler (the producer of the cult hits Snatch and Moon; also the wife of Sting), Gordon Sumner (aka Sting), and Richard Melville Hall (aka Moby) to follow his example.

Based on the complicated, intertwining plots of Crash and Third Person, you’d think that Haggis would’ve opted for multiple ice buckets being thrown at him from different angles. But instead the famed writer/director took a classical, pared-down approach (not unlike the straight ahead, no-nonsense storytelling of his underrated The Next Three Days) and completed the task with a single bucket. As videos of the ice bucket challenge get more and more elaborate, Haggis’ video is a refreshing reminder of the power of simplicity.
