Is Elton John ready to hang up his microphone, put away his piano and call an end to his rock ‘n’ roll career in order to embark on a well-earned retirement?

That’s the report coming from the Daily Mail, which claims Sir Elton is ready to call it quits in order to spend more time with husband David Furnish and their children. “Elton has seen and done it all, and has nothing left to prove,” a “friend” tells the U.K. tabloid.

“He originally planned to retire in 2018 and is understood to have brought the date forward after disappointing recent chart performances, and so he can spend more time with his young family,” claims the Mail. “He is also keen to do more to raise funds for his charitable Elton John Aids Foundation.”

However, the story is being refuted by none other than Sir Elton himself, who took to social media to slam the story as completely false. “Don’t believe what you read in the papers today,” he writes on Twitter, accompanying a 1970s-era photo of himself with songwriting partner Bernie Taupin. “There is no truth to the rumours that I am planning to retire.”

Sir Elton’s tweet links to this Instagram post, in which he adds: “In fact, I am looking forward to celebrating 50 years of collaborating with my partner-in-song, Bernie Taupin, next year.”
