MAGIC! are currently perched at the top of the world right now. (Or at least at the top of the charts.)
Toronto’s premier internationally feted reggae-pop outfit has had a stranglehold on the Billboard Hot 100 this summer, going six (6!) weeks in a row with their mega-hit “Rude”; locked into the top of the chart. ET Canada chatted with frontman Nasri Atweh about the colossal success this track has seen.
“”Rude’ is so big that even a song half as big as “Rude’ is a huge song,“; offered Nasri on his band’s chart-conquering tune.
The singer admits that the success of the song does cast a sizeable shadow over MAGIC!’s other output.
“There’s a blessing and a curse of having a song that’s as massive as “Rude’ because it’s so big that it eclipses some of the material around both by other artists and also by ourselves,“; explains the in-demand artist/writer/producer.
Does Nasri worry that such a colossal smash might put the group in danger of “one hit wonder”; status? Not in the least.
“All you have to do is get our album & you’ll understand why we don’t have to worry about that,“; proclaims a confident Nasri. “I think we made an actual good album.“
