You just can’t stop the beat, and “Hairspray Live!” proved it big-time on Wednesday night. While NBC is anticipating huge ratings for its latest live musical, the show has also resulted in a tremendous amount of “Hairspray”-related tweeting.
Starring Harvey Fierstein (reprising his Tony-winning role as Edna Turnblad) and newcomer Maddie Baillio as ebullient Tracy Turnblad, the TV version of the Broadway features a top-tier cast that includes Ariana Grande, former “SCTV” co-stars Martin Short and Andrea Martin, Jennifer Hudson, Derek Hough, Darren Criss, Kristin Chenoweth, Dove Cameron, Rosie O’Donnell and Billy Eichner.
