Those who’ve followed Charlize Theron over the years know this much about the Oscar-winning actress: behind the beautiful exterior is one refreshingly outspoken woman. And her latest interview in Women’s Wear Daily more than proves this point.
In a very open Q&A with the magazine, the 39-year-old sounds off on Hollywood’s depiction of beauty, and the age/gender double-standards that often come along with it.
“It’s ironic that we’ve built the beauty world around 20-year-olds,”; Charlize says, “when they have no f**kin’ concept about wisdom, what life is about.”
Strong words to be sure, and the actress goes even further, lamenting, “That’s why I think people say women come into their prime in their 40s. And then for some reason our society just wants to go… it’s like a dead flower. It’s like we wilt for some reason.”;
So is there a solution in sight to help remedy this ongoing bias? Charlize thinks so. She tells the magazine women should “find their strength and power in their sexuality, in their sensuality within, [through] getting older and being secure within that.”
