The mother of Louis Tomlinson has lost her battle with leukemia at age 42, with the One Direction singer and his family mourning the passing of Johannah Deakin.

As The Sun reports, Deakin, a midwife, passed away on Wednesday, and was just days away from her 43rd birthday.

“Earlier this year Johannah was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of leukeemia that required immediate and continuous treatment,” reads a statement from the family. “We respectfully request that the family are given time and space to grieve in private.”

Tomlinson’s most recent Instagram post, posted on Nov. 18, features a photo of himself and his mom, along with a touching tribute. “My mother looking gorgeous before the Brits earlier this year,” he writes. “I love and miss you so much.”

“X-Factor” judge Cheryl Cole (who’s having a baby with fellow One Direction member Liam Payne) tweeted her sympathy, writing, “my heart breaks for you. I am so sorry. My thoughts are with you and your loved ones at this incredibly tragic time.”

Also sharing his sympathies is One Direction’s manager (and Cole’s fellow “X-Factor” judge) Simon Cowell, as well as his 1D bandmates Niall Horan.
