Famed composer Andrew Lloyd Webber claims he discovered Rihanna while on vacation in Barbados nearly 13 years ago, but chose not to “bring her back” to the UK.

The “Phantom Of The Opera” composer tells “Good Morning Britain” he stumbled upon the young singer performing karaoke at a resort. Webber was with his creative partner Nigel Wright at the time, when both men decided not to follow their impulses though the young Rihanna sounded “very, very good.”

“I said to Nigel, ‘If we bring her back, you know it’s like when you see a picture when you’re away and you take it home and you think, why did I buy that?'” Webber explains. “I thought: we’ll get her back, it’ll be fine, but then what do we do with her?”

Webber admits the missed opportunity was “not something he was proud of.”

Well RiRi might not be a “Cats” kind of performer, but she sure has made it without the help of Webber. Rihanna now has a $160 million fortune, since being discovered by producer Evan Rogers in 2003 while he was on holiday and saw the future superstar performing at a resort as part of an all-girl group. A year later, she recorded her first track “Pon De Replay” and was quickly signed to a record label.
