Our favourite sister pop-duo, Tegan and Sara, have launched the Tegan and Sara Foundation aimed to “fight for economic justice, health and representation for LGBTQ girls and women.”

In a letter on the band’s website, the sisters share that they started working on the foundation during their fall tour. They spent time going through fan letters and meeting with activists, legislators, and researchers, as well as nonprofits — all of which have worked directly with LGBTQ causes — so they could be fully prepared for this venture that means a lot to them.

“Over the years, our LGBTQ fans have supported us in innumerable ways. Your personal histories of injustice and discrimination at home, school, work, and church have always inspired us to use our public status to speak out about the struggles impacting the LGBTQ community,” the sisters shared on their website. “We started the Foundation to dismantle the systems of inequity that prevent LGBTQ girls and women from reaching their full potential. Together, we can make a difference.”

The girls also unveiled their partnership with Keihl’s. The campaign called Keihl’s Pride with Tegan and Sara, allows the beauty company’s customers to support the foundation with limited edition products, with 100% of the net profits being donated to the foundation.

“We want to help support counseling and mentorship services for LGBTQ youth with the Tegan and Sara foundation, it was a natural mix for Keihl’s to give back to the community and help youth feel more comfortable in their skin,” says Alexandre Ratte, General Manager at Keihl’s Canada, in a statement.
