Comic Book Hero Archie Meets ‘Twin Peaks’ In First Look At The CW’s Offbeat ‘Riverdale’

Anyone who ever read the comic book adventures of Archie, Jughead, Betty, Veronica and their pals will be sure to do a double take when they feast their eyes on “Riverdale”, a new series from The CW that infuses the wholesome adventures of the red-headed teenager with a “Twin Peaks”-style murder mystery that exposes the dark — and deeply weird — underbelly we had no idea was there.

The pilot of “Riverdale” begins with the mysterious death of teenager Jason Blossom, which peels off the all-American veneer of the seemingly bucolic little town to reveal sinister goings-on bubbling beneath the surface.

Starring KJ Apa as Archie, Cole Sprouse (of “The Suite Life of Zach and Cody” fame) as Jughead, the cast also includes Camila Mendes as Veronica and Lili Reinhart as Betty, while fans of the comics can also expect to see such characters as uber-nerd Dilton Doiley, all-female rock band Josie and the Pussycats and football-playing Moose, whose nickname apparently springs from an unusually large part of his anatomy.

Also starring are Luke Perry and Molly Ringwald as Archie’s parents, who apparently have a lot more secrets than their comic-book counterparts.

“Riverdale” debuts on Thursday, Jan. 26, but until then check out this intriguing first-look trailer, above.
